Jamie Goldman’s CoffeeTalk…
Jamie Goldman is solid. If you see him or watch him riding, you can have no doubt about the power of the guy. But despite this, Jamie’s last season was stopped by an injury, and it’s not the first time. But isn’t it the way you recognize real professionals ? Their ability to overpass some serious injuries in order to come back even stronger ? (Hermann Maier ? Somebody ? ). Jamie took some minutes of his hyper-active life to talk about him, pretty interesting to have his point of view about injuries, riding and travelling…All pics copyright of SantaCruz Syndicate, except Bearclaw Invitational’s copyright of Joakim Andreassen…
Name ? Age ? Who you’re riding for ? Jamie Goldman… i ride for Santa Cruz Syndicate, Monster Energy, Giro and Globe shoes.
How and when did you start riding a bike ? I started riding Bikes because my big brother and dad were really into. it just seemed right! first got on a bike when i was 3

When did you become a “pro” ? I turned pro when i was 18
What were the biggest changes in life turning pro ? The biggest change in my life turning pro was all the traveling. Im still not used to it. its crazy going all over the world.
How do you train ? I train by riding as much as possible. watching videos and studying techniques. every once in a great while i get to ride a foam pit which helps out. I ride moto a bit. skateboard and snowboard too. they all help in different aspects and help give you new ideas of things to try on my bike.
Can you describe a normal day of your life ? A normal day in my life starts out with a groggy wake up session. usually soar from the prior days activities. stretch in bed for a second, have some coffee. some eggs. go outside and see what the weather is like to decide what i will do that day, bike, board, moto, could go either way. then i grab a monster and hit the road. shred most of the day. come home. do some welding. maybe think of something cool i wanna build for my yard. eat dinner. go to bed. wake up do it again.

Can you please briefly sum up your season ? Last years season was super lame. I Injured my knee again at the first contest of the year just putting my foot out. so my whole year was pretty much destroyed. was a bummer year for me having to travel to contests and watch everyone shred just wishing i could be there along side them all.
What are you focused on for next year ? Any changes ? Sponsors ? Most of my sponsors are the same. i like to have long lasting relationships with solid companies and build a bond. switching around too much is no way to support a company. it really shows how much you believe in a product when you run it for so long.
My focus this year is to have fun while traveling. I was pretty bummed out on traveling for a couple years, i am gonna try to embrace it this year and see how it treats me
What are you up to for this winter ? this winter im gonna try to get in good all around shape. keep eating well and working out. try to get more flexible. snowboard lots. and im building a desert truck. so finishing that is high on the list too!!

What are you doing when you’re not on you bike ? when im not on my bike i like to stay busy. If you’ve read this far you can see that im a busy body. working on my truck. snow, skate, moto, fixing bikes, woodworking. i have lots of hobbies. sometimes i get overwhelmed with every idea that i have in my head.
What kind of music do you listen to ? I listen to all types of music really. Somedays I like to listen to really mellow stuff like jack johnson style, and other days i listen to dragon force, and there are days for lynard skynard and wolfmother. I just love music.
What was your dream when you were a kid ? Did you succeed ? My dream when i was a kid was to become a pro outdoor moto racer… i didnt do that but i feel like i have definitely succedded. i just went another direction.
Which skills do you think are recquired to be a top-level athlete ? To be a top athlete you gotta have a lot of self drive. you wake up every day and gotta get out there and do something to improve yourself without being told do so. its not like school where your told what to do all the time. you gotta know, or you gotta do the research. nothing comes easy. you gotta work hard to get what you want. and not many people have a trainer to get them going everyday like shawn white. the other thing is mental. you gotta be prepared to deal with being injured. i have had lots of injuries and i try to come back with more knowledge from each injury. what exercises to do and what stretches to do to prevent injuries that have happened to me. and its not always easy to jump back on the horse thats bucked you off so many times. but sometimes… if you want it bad enough. you’ll get back on.
Is there some persons who helped you along your career or now and you would like to thanks or put the spotlights on ? My dad and mom have always supported me so much. i wouldnt be who i am without them. they took me around to races and helped me with what they could. Even though we didnt have a lot of money they did everything they could to make my childhood the best it could be. thanks Mom and Pop.
cheers everyone!! i’m off to ride my bike!
Here’s a nice bikecheck straight from VitalMTB !
